Blueberries
The blueberry is closely related to our
native bilberry, but is larger and more productive. Blueberries are slow to
crop, they will bear light yields at first but by the fifth year a bush will
yield 2.25kg increasing to at least 4.5kg when mature.
Blueberries grow best in full sun to light
shade with protection from strong winds. Blueberries need a very acid soil (pH
4-5.5) which retains moisture during the summer.
Blueberries are decorative, they will reach a
height of 1.5-1.8m when mature and some cultivars have an excellent autumn leaf
colour of reds or gold's.
Blueberries are available in containers all
year round.

An upright and vigorous blueberry which bears
heavy yields of large, light blue, firm berries in early to mid-August of good
quality. Also has a good autumn colour of oranges and reds.

Blueberry 'Duke'
An stocky bush which bears good yields of
large, light blue, firm berries in early July of good quality. It flowers late
but crops early so is especially suited to being grown in northern areas. Also
has a good autumn colour of oranges and reds.
