Chestnuts
The sweet chestnut was introduced into Europe from Sardis, in Asia Minor. The
latin name for sweet chestnut is Castanea sativa, Spanish castanets are
often made from the wood of this tree. Chestnuts have about 180 calories per 100
grams, which is much lower than that of walnuts, almonds, and other nuts.
Chestnuts contain no cholesterol, very little fat, and no gluten.
Grow in deep, well drained, slightly acid, loam soil in sun or partial shade.
