Fothergilla major 'Monticola Group'

An upright shrub which has alternate, obovate to nearly rounded, glossy, dark green leaves, with toothed margins, turning brilliant red, orange, and yellow in autumn. Erect, terminal spikes of fragrant, white, occasionally pink-tinged flowers are borne in May and June before or as the leaves unfold.

Grows in humus-rich or leafy, moist but well-drained acid soil in full sun or partial shade. Grown in full sun will produce more flowers and a richer autumn leaf colour. It will reach a height of 2.5m and a spread of 2m.
