Halesia carolina
Silver Bell. Snowdrop Tree. A spreading tree which has ovate to elliptic,
minutely toothed, mid-green leaves which turn yellow in autumn. Clusters of 2-6
pendant, bell-shaped, white flowers are borne in profusion from the branches in
late spring before the leaves emerge.
Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained neutral to acid soil in
sun or partial shade. An ideal specimen tree for the back of a shrub border or
for a woodland garden. It will reach an ultimate height of 8m and a spread of
10m.
