Pterostyrax hispida

Epaulette Tree. A deciduous, spreading tree or shrub which has peeling, aromatic grey bark and oblong to ovate, pale green leaves, to 20cm long. Bell-shaped, fragrant white flowers, 1cm across are borne in pendant panicles, to 20cm long in early and midsummer, followed by oblong, 5-ribbed fruit, to 1cm long, covered in yellow-brown bristles.

Grow in deep, fertile, well-drained, neutral to acid soil in full sun or partial shade. It will reach a height of 15m and spread of 12m.
